根据统计，科技网络罪行在过去五年内在香港上升了叁倍，网上企业尤其是金融机构更是科技网络罪案的主要目标。应科院将会跟财经业界和香港警方合作，创建一个网络安全研究和实习平台，用作调查本地发现的网络罪行，研究防禦方案和进行培训。要成为一个安全的财经中心，香港绝对需要一个高端的平台用作侦查跟财经有关的网络罪案及训练有素的执法人员，这些设施同时亦可提升香港在应付财经界网络罪行这範畴至一个领导地位。
