根據统計，科技網絡罪行在過去五年內在香港上升了三倍，網上企業尤其是金融機構更是科技網絡罪案的主要目標。應科院將會跟財經業界和香港警方合作，創建一個網絡安全研究和實習平台，用作調查本地發現的網絡罪行，研究防禦方案和進行培訓。要成為一個安全的財經中心，香港絕對需要一個高端的平台用作偵查跟財經有關的網絡罪案及訓練有素的執法人員，這些設施同時亦可提升香港在應付財經界網絡罪行這範疇至一個領導地位。
