Description:

Starting from the trend in mobile phone, and followed by tablet and TV, other consumer electronics (CE) are also getting smarter with the abilities to run applications (Apps). The objective of this project is to capture this Smart CE trend by researching and developing an enhanced Smart CE OS framework, especially for the China Smart TV market that is not supported by Google. It is forecasted that the Smart TV will have 54% market share (32.4 million units) in the China TV market by 2015. The framework will be built on optimizing the Open source Android platform. The main reasons are owing to the large Apps developer community and the availability of source codes to start with building the framework. The developed Smart CE OS developed will not only be compatible to run Android Apps, but also be able to run with less memory and lower end CPU than standard Google Android so as to provide a low cost solution to meet the general CE market needs. The project will also focus on improving user experience for Smart TV. The project will target customers and collaborators which are broadcasters/ service providers/ operators, TV manufacturers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)/Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) of embedded devices and SoC (System-On-Chip) vendors.
