Description:
Battery operated portable electronic devices become increasingly popular. Almost everyone owns a mobile phone, MP3, PDA or other portable consumer electronic devices. Consumers are demanding more features and better performance. Such enhancements do not come without penalty. They take more power to operate. Since power source comes from batteries, efficient power management integrated circuit technologies are critical for their operations. Battery run time and life depend on how efficiently power is managed. This program develops families of commercial power management integrated circuits contributing to the foundation of portable power management technology. The core building blocks include low drop-out linear regulators (LDO), DC to DC converters and intelligent battery management circuits. These blocks will be first license as commercial ICs and they will later be reused to build more complex integrated power managment ICs. Thus we not only address the current market needs and generate immediate incomes but we also lay down the foundation for advanced analog circuit technologie for Hong Kong's technology future needs.
