Description:
According to Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) in Hong Kong, it is estimated that more than 1/3 population is over 65 years old in 2041. Ageing becomes one of the greatest health, social, and economic world-wide challenges in the 21st century. Age-related or pathological (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease) cognitive decline leading to dependency of elderly is a major concern. With timely detection, diagnosis and intervention with continual assessments of cognitive impairments, huge medical and social burden can be greatly alleviated. We target at developing a system to facilitate early detection and screening of elderly with cognitive health problems and also assessing the stress level of caregivers. This system can facilitate the professional cognitive assessments in a more scientific way. In addition, we will use this system to promote early detection and continual monitoring of cognitive impairment, as well as to improve the experience and ease of cognitive assessment for the elderly in Hong Kong before and after non-pharmaceutical intervention such as physical/mental training. In this project, we aim at developing a system to assist the assessment of cognitive health of user through the detection of activity, stress, focus and mood.
