Description:
This project aims to develop IC technology to perform powerline communication based on the HomePlug AV2(HPAV2) standard. With higher demands in bandwidth and performance, this advanced powerline communication technology addresses emerging applications such as multimedia streaming or video surveillance over a powerline network. The objective is to create intellectual property(IP) blocks to augment current powerline technology and enable high performance applications. The research methodology follows the stages of algorithm development, hardware architecture definition and system implementation. Key research areas will involve algorithms for solving problems with Multiple Input Multiple Output(MIMO), spectrum notching and higher order Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(QAM). The algorithms are modeled and tested on hardware to verify performance. When completed, the technology will allow IC manufacturers and appliance makers to offer high-performance connectivity for different applications. Working together with HomePlug Green PHY technology, it allows for the formation of advanced powerline communication networks that are expected to grow as part of the smart home initiative.
